Local and Regional Crisis Prevention

Crisis prevention and peace building are a priority in Germany's development co-operation. The development policy as part of Germany's overall foreign and peace policy has to dismantle the structural causes of armed conflicts by improving the econo-mic, social, ecological and political conditions in the partner countries and to establish mechanisms of peaceful resolution of conflicts.

The overall objective of the course is the higher qualification of medium level management personnel and decision makers from central government and from regional organisations involved local, regional and international crisis prevention.

The participants will be given special training for their work in preventive conflict transforma-tion. After completing the training they should
• perceive conflict prevention as a political challenge for development cooperation,
• get to know and learn to apply conflict and crisis analysis procedures in the context of
...development policy requirements,
• be able to use conflict and crisis transformation methods,
• get to know bodies and institutions dealing with regional and international conflict and
...crisis prevention and their modes of operation.

The course is aimed at medium level management personnel and decision makers from central government and from regional organisations involved local and regional crisis prevention. The participants should hold a first academic degree and possess at least two to three years of professional experience in the a.m. fields. They are also expected to have a very good command of English. Female applicants are especially welcome to participate in the course.

This course is financed by the Federal Ministry for Economic Cooperation and Develop-ment (Bundesministerium für wirtschaftliche Zusammenarbeit und Entwicklung).
