For decision makers and intermediaries for disseminating purposes in the tsunami-affected region of Nanggroe Aceh Darussalam, Indonesia , as well as local authorities, responsible for the planning and reconstruction of this area within the framework of the Integrated Coastal Zone Management (ICZM).
The general objective of ICZM is to contribute to the reconstruction of Nanggroe Aceh Darussalam in a sustainable manner by training decision makers and local authorities in the following:
1. The sustainable utilization of available resources and the development of new
.....employment opportunities to enable people to provide for themselves in the long run.
2. Consideration of different stakeholders as to the use of coastal resources.
3. Inlcusion of concerned stakeholders in all planning and decion- making processes to
....ensure transparency and accountability for all.
4. Good practices in conflict management so as to ensure transparency among and
.... inclusion of all stakeholders.
5. Conservation and/or the creation of coastal-specific ecosystems (mangroves, dunes,
....coral reefs etc.) to protect local communities against forces of nature.
6. Observance of catastrophe precautions and management throughout the development
....of the region (e.g. earthquakes, tsunamis, typhoons, floods, landslides etc.).
ICZM, an interdisciplinary, process-and inclusion-oriented strategy for the sustainable development of coastal regions, considers in equal parts ecological, economic, and socal aspects. The training program seeks to enhance the participants' managerial as well as professional competencies.
Managerial competencies include:
• presentation techniques and communication skills
• conduct of negotiations, handling conflicts
• techniques in planning and decision-making
• leading of groups
• gender and intercultural management
Professional competencies include:
• ecology of the coastal zone (both land and sea)
• importance and usefullness of ecological systems for coastal regions
• research on environmental compatability, impact and sustainability for developmental
.. efforts
• landuse planning
• sustainable forms of utilization for natural resources (fishery and agriculture)
• catastrophe precautions
InWEnt wil make use of short-term and repeating training workshops within the target region. Acquired knowledge will be realized through exercises specifically developed to strengthen the participants' practical experiences. All progress will be monitored and discussed in subsequent traning workshops.
