INDOGERM-Direct - Photovoltaik, Renewable Energy Training

The infrastructure in the tsunami-affected NAD/Aceh province has been very much neglected most especially electricity supply. In many villages there is no electricity or no grid connection. Given the geographic situation in the province, it will take a very long time until the grid could come to those areas.

Diesel is getting increasingly expensive whereas renewable energies are available abundantly. In this context INDOGERM-Direct has initiated some pilot initiatives for small Photovoltaic systems. The first batch of systems shall be installed at the vocational school in Banda Aceh in December.

INDOGERM-Direct has initiated some basic training activities to assure the proper installation and maintenance of the systems. This initial training activity is financed by INDOGERM-Direct.

Institution In Charge.. : ..Indonesian-German Chamber of Commerce

Target groups of the training activities
:
.Teachers of vocational schools in Banda Aceh and other places
.Technicians from local firms who could be involved in the planning, erection and
...maintenance of decentral energy systems
.If possible some former GAM combatants which are currently involved in the retraining
...programme should be involved
.NGOs shall be included
.Persons from villages who may be village heads or technicians
.BRR and administrations - especially those responsible for channelling funds which may
.. be used for electrification.

Objectives:
.The impact of the implementation of a PV-system by INDOGERM-direct shall be increased
... by additional training and dissemination efforts
.The use of PV and decentral electricity production from renewable energies for productive
... income generating purposes shall especially be promoted
.The integration of PV and related skills in the teaching at the vocational schools shall be
... enhanced
.By involving other organisations (NGO) as well as GTZ projects and other relevant actors
... networking shall be initiated
.Explore the needs for further actions in the field of renewables for decentral energy
... generation
.Contributing as a first step to a development of a new training course “Renewable
... Energies”, coordinated with GTZ.

Contents. The additional training activities shall be structured as follows:
1. development of an overview booklet of Solar technologies, applications, components, costs, economics, etc, in the Indonesian context, bilingual, to be the basis for a seminar and hands-on training workshops, covering Solar Home Systems, Solar Public Lighting, Solar Well Pumping, Solar Refrigeration and a short overview on other RE subjects. The cases of the SMK schools shall be taken-up as examples.

2. a ‘launch' and awareness raising dissemination seminar to launch the booklet and present its contents (planned for 2 days, 50 pax)

3. (optional) follow-up seminars in Meulaboh and Nias(Planned for 1 day, 30 persons)

4. printing and distribution of the booklet (CD). 1,000 booklets with managed distribution to project managers, architects, sponsors, government and other parties involved in reconstruction including illustrated training material upon prior approval by InWEnt

5. (optional) hands-on training workshops in Aceh, at SMKK. 2 ‘modules' (“solar home/public lighting design, installation and maintenance” and “solar well pumping design, installation and maintenance”), (2 days, 10 pax).

Methods
Course: Solar Home System “Installateur” Training (8, 9, and 10 December 2006, SMKK, Aceh). A hands-on practical training for installateurs for installing simple solar home systems, in principle aimed at finding and training installers for the Muara Tiga and Soroptimist projects, but also open to installers from other projects and organizations.
